Growing my own food is one of my true loves but my garden has a way of going crazy when I neglect it, like right now. When I lived in a giant, concrete box in Oakland, there was nothing to nurture besides my sculpture, drawings and photography.
In these first 5 years of living in a real house with a garden, I've fallen in love with growing organic things to eat and my studio has been a little neglected. Now that my days are spent feeding, picking up after and changing the diapers of my almost two year old son, my garden, as well as my artwork have suffered from my neglect while my delightful son thrives.
I keep reminding myself that the life of anyone creative needs to have input phases and output phases. Taking in experience and influences and later, putting out your own twisted version of these things.
